The loner befriends Nalani

Every morning Marion was out on the ocean, diving and searching for signs of mermaids, or anything that could lead her to the magical place that could make her a mermaid. When she had to stop for breaks she was pouring over news articles, magazines, and books, looking for clues. Writing all her discoveries and ideas in her adventure journal.

Something had to reveal itself at some point, right?

She was in one of the beach restrooms when she had an aha moment. If she was right about dolphins being the friends of mermaids. Then that means they would likely know how to turn into a mermaid, or where the mermaids live at the very least. She had been talking to the one dolphin and making friends with it. Afterwards she had gone into the cave and played catch with the dolphins.

What if it had been a clue that they were trying to share with her. What if there was some kind of rare sea plant that is magical and turns regular sims into mermaids... or gasp! Maybe it also takes magical mermaid powers away! So that was where she was going to start focusing her research attempts. Perhaps she could find references to some magical sea plant of some kind that would lead her to the actual answer of what plant does it.

She was now absolutely convinced that was the answer. As a reward for her progress, she took a break and built some sandcastles on the beach. It was about time she took a moment to just enjoy Sulani, and not be trying to clean it of messes from tourists, or exploring it for any sign of Mermaids that she could.

To be fair to herself, she did stop to chat with people when she ran into them, despite being a loner. Fighting her nature to be by herself in order to get to know the locals who had already lived on Sulani for years. It would come in helpful in tight situations where she needed help. Besides, they might know some secrets they could share with her.

She looked up from her wandering thoughts and realized that others had been joining her in covering the beach with sandcastles. She got instantly flustered when she realized how surrounded she was and how she had influenced a sandcastle beach movement.

She had to go home and relax with a cup of milk and a hot bath to calm down and recharge her social batteries. She hadn't even been talking to anyone really, it just hit her suddenly. Mele left her a text message that she received when she got out.

"Since you're new to the area, I wanted to let you know about the Flowers and Music Festival that will be starting soon. I didn't want you to miss it if you were interested in going."

Marion didn't reply right away, she had to think about it. Could she handle socializing at a festival? This could be an opportunity to get to know the locals better without necessarily having to socialize with them. She could just listen to their conversations. She might find out more information she could add to her adventure journal.

"Sorry, I was preoccupied with something. That sounds really fun, I hope I'm not to late."

Mele came over to get her and show her where to go. She even taught her some tricks on how to do the fire dance that everyone would be doing. Marion was super thankful for those tips because she was able to do a flawless fire dance and concentrating on it gave her the excuse not to have to talk to that many people.

One sim in particular she did end up chatting with. It was Nalani, the woman who was working in the food booths. It started down pouring and thunder-storming, and the festival broke up as everyone went home for safety. She and Nalani however, stayed. Neither of them were very phased by the storm, so they got to chatting.

They sat under the pavilion after awhile just to have a place to sit down while the storm worked itself out. Conversation went from random things like the different types of drums, to what exactly makes the perfect grilled cheese sandwhich. As the clouds started clearing they continued their conversation walking along the beach.

Marion got super excited and ran ahead, she had spotted a shell that had washed up on shore and it was the biggest shell she'd ever seen. She had been collecting quite a few different shells that caught her attention and decorating her house with them.

"Nalani check out this cool shell I found!" She said excitedly turning around, "It looks like a horn or something." She added bringing it up to her mouth to blow into it. All the talk about music during the storm had music instruments at the front of her mind.

"Marion wait!" Nalani tried to say.

To late, Marion had already blown into the shell which made a beautiful sound.

Suddenly Nalani held her hands down at her sides and made a noise like a dolphin. As Marion watched the reaction to her blowing the shell like a horn with concern for her friend, she realized that even the hands and strange movements were reminiscent of a dolphin.

Her mind started turning, "Are you... okay?"

Nalani sighed, "I'm fine... I'm a mermaid, and those shells bring out the porpoise... I'm sorry. I'll leave now."

"You're a mermaid?" Marion nearly choked in her excitement, her brain had been starting to head in that direction, but it clicked into place and sent her emotions into overdrive. She not only had found a mermaid she had befriended one."Nonono, don't go. No, this is amazing, Oh my gosh, it's the best news ever! I love mermaids! I knew they were real! I've been dreaming about becoming one almost all my life. I even moved to Sulani because I heard about the recent sightings here and I was hoping I could find proof, or maybe even find the magic that could turn me into a mermaid myself." She took a deep breath, flustered, realizing she had just gushed out a lot of information very quickly.

Nalani hadn't moved to leave though. She was even smiling. "Thank you Marion. It brings me joy that someone like you is who discovered my secret."

Marion breathed a sigh of relief, that was a positive reaction to her excited outburst. "Whatever you can tell me, I would absolutely love to know. Especially if you know how I can become one."

"I'm afraid I can't tell you much information yet." Nalani said pulling Marion into a hug, "I really appreciate this though. I have to... report that I've been discovered. It will be determined how much information can be released to you. We'll see. We'll see. I'm hopeful though. You're a good person Marion."

Marion blushed in response, "Th-Thank you. I just try my best." her voice caught in her throat for a moment. What a day this had turned out to be.

The vibe of the conversation suddenly shifted.

Nalani had a super flirtatious reaction to Marion for being in love with mermaids, and everything about them. In return, Marion already found Nalani gorgeous and now was extra attracted to her knowing that she was a mermaid.

"Wait... was it you in the cave that I heard singing?!"
