Mermaid Beach - Found Family
Marion isn't here in Sulani to be tied down though. So as much as she really likes Nalani, her attention has wandered to Paka'a Uha. She's seen them on the beach several times, just walking back and forth with what seems like no real direction. It catches her attention, she wants to get to know them better.
The babies are never far away, so that she can hear them if they cry, but the two of them begin to chat every day. Walking along the beach with the stroller, or while the babies are napping in the shade on a beach towel, they'll lay on the sand and watch the sky, the clouds, the stars; for hours. Chatting about whatever odd thing pops into their mind. Paka'a has a secret that they want to share with Marion, but they're not sure how to share it.
Marion has a feeling that she knows what that secret is.
She blows her Mermaid Conch. Sure enough, Paka'a chitters like a dolphin just like Nalani had. They look super embarrassed, but Marion just smiles. "I had a feeling that you were a mermaid as well, based on our talks."
"Nalani told the council that you had learned of some of our secrets..."
"I want to be a mermaid, it's my lifelong dream. I want it so bad. I can't figure out how to become one though..." she looked shyly at Paka'a through her eyelashes, "So I thought I would start by having kids with mermaids so that I can be related to mermaids at the very least."
"Oh..." They looked stunned and blushed.
"You wouldn't want to help me out with that little problem would you?"
Oh, they absolutely would love to help out with that little problem. Some woohooing without having to hide your magical side because the other person absolutely knows already. Wonderful.
Over the next few months as her stomach grew with the next pregnancy, she and Paka'a now spent time in the water as well as their continued walks on the beach. Marinalani and Marlani liked to have turns being carried into deeper water to feel what it was like. It was like having a small family, and it warmed Marion's heart. She loved this. It wasn't being a mermaid, but that goal didn't seem to matter as much anymore. This kind of family felt like it had been missing from her life for so long.
