A day on the beach - Marion meets some locals

Marion was determined to get to know the locals... and see if they had any rumors that could lead her to finding the mermaids who live in Sulani and keep getting sighted. Especially the very pretty one that she had seen from a distance in the cave. So while she explored the beaches, learning the area, she tried to keep one eye up so that she could introduce herself to any locals that she happened to run into.

"Hi! Nice to meet you! I'm Marion, I just moved here to Sulani." She said, greeting a sim who was out for a walk along the shores. "You wouldn't happen to know any mermaids around here would you?"

Okay so she didn't ask that final question but it would be funny if she had, right? She needs to get to know people first before she tries to ask about her obsession. She's a loner and feels very uncomfortable talking about herself. So she's planning to take her time getting to know everyone and asking them things. She only has so many spoons to handle social interactions for long. But at least introducing herself is the best way to start.

The sim shrugged and continued walking, "Yeah, nice to meet you." it seemed they didn't really want to talk right then. Perhaps they were the mermaid that Marion had seen so briefly in the cavern very shortly before. It's hard to say since she doesn't know how to identify a walking mermaid from a regular sim. It's really the tail that gives all mermaids away after all, and for that to be revealed they need to be in the water.

Nah, couldn't be. She waved goodbye and continued learning the area until she saw someone else.

"Hello, I'm Marion! I just moved to Sulani, it is wonderful to meet you!"

"Pleasure. I am Kalamainu'u."

"Kama...llama...new. I'm sorry, can you say that again?"

The woman chuckled and repeated her name slower. "Kalamainu'u"

"Kalamainu'u."

"There you go, you got it."

"Thank you, you're so sweet for being patient with me. I'm so excited about moving here. Everything is gorgeous here. The water, the woman, the men." She hesitated, and than mumbled, "The mermaids." She was scared of being judged, but she had really thought that the mermaid she'd seen in the cave was gorgeous.

Kalamainu'u rolled her eyes at the last bit and made a sassy talking hand, "All those news articles are so clumsily written and there is so many rumors. I hope you didn't fall for them."

Marion blushed and nodded, "Yeah, I believe in mermaids, I know they're real. It's one of the reasons I wanted to move to Sulani."

"Well, I wish you luck in your searches."

They chatted for a little while, and got to be decent friends, laughing and having a great time.

Yet another beautiful sim walked by as they were talking and caught Marion's attention. Had that been the mermaid from the cave? Why couldn't she remember? Was there some strange mermaid magic that stops you from remembering what a mermaid looks like?

Maybe it's just her excitement at having seen a mermaid that made her not remember details clearly? Or the dark of the cave?

Or... she gasped, what if it had been the song the mermaid had been singing that cast forgetful magic!?

She snapped back to the conversation when Kalamainu'u started complaining about vacuum cleaners.

"You're so right. I don't want to be disguising myself as a maid just to take care of dust. I want to be out and about swimming and exploring the water world. I am not a neat person. Give me those new robot things that clean the floors for you. I just can't be bothered to focus on dusting daily chores like vacuuming."

Her new friend nodded and than looked annoyed at something while looking up at the sky. "I have to get going now, but welcome to Sulani." Then she left and continued her jaunt down the beach.

Marion continued her exploration as well, heading in the direction that the woman who had passed them earlier had went in. If she just talked to her, maybe she could figure out if it was the mermaid that she had seen in the cave.

"Hello there!" She called out, and the woman turned around to look at her. Before she could say her normal introduction, the words caught in her throat, "You're gorgeous." She laughed embarrassed. "Er, I mean hi, I'm Marion, I just moved here to Sulani.

"Welcome to Sulani! My name is Mele, my husband Alika and I would be delighted to help you learn your way around. It's a pleasure to have a new face around here."

Mele seemed to accept the compliment as a compliment, but she doesn't swing on that team, she is happily married. It definitely seemed like she was not the mermaid from the cave, but she was a delightfully friendly, kind, and helpful woman. She would be a wonderful friend to have while living in this new world.

They said their goodbyes after exchanging information, and than Marion went off to learn how to dive with scuba gear, and maybe search for a way to turn into a mermaid in the process. Maybe she could find some clues, like a wall that depicted sims turning into mermaids. Though that was probably asking for to much.

Whatever it took, she would figure it out. Her next step would be the library and doing more research that she would add into the adventure journal she was keeping.

Author's Note: I'm trying to have her find the mermaid kelp, and not purchase it in the reward's store.
